Nigerians were stunned on Sunday, March 6, when the death of Barrister James Ocholi (SAN) was announced.

Late James Ocholi, State Minister of Labour

Not only was his death shocking, it was also tragic and painful, especially with the loss of wife, son and driver at a time when Nigerians were beginning to get to know him more and reap the benefits of the present administration through his ministry.

The late Ocholi was regarded as a sound SAN and was mooted as one of the voices of the common man in Nigeria, a situation which makes his demise a more difficult pill to swallow.

He died in a fatal car accident along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway after the tyre of his car burst in motion, barely eight months to his 59th birthday, while his wife’s demise, which was later confirmed in the hospital, completed a near wipe out of the entire family.

His family members are suspecting foul play in the incident, not only because there might be political disagreements which may lead to heated arguments and unexpected terrible actions, but because of the manner of the crash.

Reports say the driver of the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) which purportedly somersaulted a few times was the same person who took the pictures of the car and the deceased and posted on the social media. How?

This allegation smirks of suspicion, especially as the relative who made these allegations, noted that there was a special recruitment process that brought in one of Ocholi’s drivers.

There are reports that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) officials are already in talks with the 46-year-old who is currently Uganda’s national team coach since the African Nations Championship in January.

According to MTN Football, the NFF technical committee chairman, Chris Green was in talks with Micho in Rwanda, and the gaffer is expected in Nigeria shortly after the double-header against Egypt.

“Green met with Micho at CHAN and it is like it is already a done deal. The plan was to appoint Shuaibu Amodu for the Egypt matches and after those games, a substantive foreign coach will be named with Micho in pole position,” a top official disclosed to MTNFootball.

“But Amodu declined the post because he is hypertensive and so the temporary arrangement of Siasia and co., who have been told they will revert to their previous posts after the matches against Egypt.”

Another source added: “Micho’s representatives have told me they have established a link with the NFF for quite some time now.”

In a related development, the NFF president Amaju Pinnick earlier hinted with the exit of Sunday Oliseh as the Super Eagles coach, Nigeria would now resort to getting a top-notch foreign coach.

Obviously worried about the shocking infamous resignation of the former coach, Pinnick rejected moves to employ indigenous coaches for the senior national team.

He said: “After this Sunday Oliseh debacle, we have definitely turned the corner. We are now going to start shopping for a well-grounded and qualified foreign coach to tinker the team.”
