At the court of appeal sitting in Abuja on Thursday, December 31, the appeal court was reported to have upturned the decision of the Taraba state election tribunal which declared the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Aisha Alhassan the winner of the Taraba governorship election.
While briefing newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, December 31, Mama Taraba’s counsel Mahmud Magaji disclosed that his client’s submission remained that Governor Darious Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was not genuinely sponsored by his party as required by Section 177 of the Nigerian constitution.

In defense of the client, counsel of the opposition party Kanu Agabi disclosed that they would not undermine the right the right of the APC and its candidate to seek appeal.
He said: “The right of appeal is what brought us here and the right of appeal is still what will take them to the Supreme Court, so I cannot underestimate the value of their appeal.”
Mama Taraba’s counsel further added that the process has given them room to test the judgement so that they can expand the jurisprudence of the electoral course saying, “their lordships have g
one through our various speeches and have come up with their own ruling and we feel that we have the right to proceed to the Supreme Court.”
Still in court, a five-man panel of judges led by Justice Abdul Aboki, described the decision of the Taraba state election tribunal which declared Mama Taraba winner of the April governorship election in the state as unattainable.
