A major of the Nigerian Army and three other soldiers have reportedly been shot dead on Thursday, March 17, in Abonnema in Akuku-Toru local government area of Rivers state.
A source who spoke to Sahara Reporters, said that the soldiers ran into an ambush set up by militants. However, both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state are accusing each other of the act.
According to PDP, the APC thugs who are also working with some military officers attacked a military boat conveying electoral materials at KM14 Ibile Waters.
The state governor, Nyesom Wike had engaged in rallies across the state, and repeatedly threatened that anyone attempting to rig election against his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates will be killed.
This report is coming shortly after gunmen stormed the home town of chief Andrew Uchendu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate in the March 19 rerun election in Rivers state in Emohua Clan, Emohua local government area in the state.
The gunmen reportedly killed a 28-year-old man identified as Mr. Ukeoma and beheaded him. The assailants also abducted another resident who is yet to be identified.
