The safety of Rotimi Amaechi is at risk as Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has charged voters to beat him (Amaechi) thoroughly if he is seen at any polling booth on election day.
Gov. Wike and Minister of Transport, Amaechi |
Governor Wike who gave the directive at the grand finale of the PDP campaign rally held at Ikwerre local government area of Rivers state, accused the APC of plotting to swap original election result sheets on the voting day.
According to the Daily Post, he said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was colluding with the APC in the plot to rig the re-run legislative elections scheduled for Saturday, March 19. Wike urged voters to resist the rigging plot orchestrated by Amaechi by dealing with him decisively if they see him driving around on election day. He said: “We know their plans.
They have arranged how to swap original results on that day. They want to do it Amina Zakari. Tell them we have passed that stage. Is this how Nigeria wants to change?
We heard Amaechi will be moving from polling booth to polling booth. Let him try it. I will show him that I am the Governor of Rivers State.
I challenge him to move around. If he dares come to anybody’s polling booth and you see him, beat him thoroughly.” In reaction however, Rotimi Amaechi has dared Wike to carry out his threats on election day.
The minister of transport who was at another rally at Etche Local government in the state said he will move around to show Wike that he was more powerful than him.
“Left to me, ordinarily I would have just voted at my polling unit on Saturday and go back to my hotel room but to show him I’m more powerful, I will visit his ward. I will visit his ward and call him Nyesom Wike.
I don’t understand. He is just threatening you. He is intimidating you,” Amaechi said. Meanwhile, Rotimi Amaechi has called on the people of the state to vote for the APC in the rerun election scheduled for Saturday, March 19.
The Cable reports that Amaechi appealed to the people while speaking at a town hall meeting in a community on Tuesday, March 15.
He accused former president Goodluck Jonathan of imposing Governor Nyesom Wike on the people of the state. Therefore, he urged them to reject candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election to “shame” the ex-president.
