Obasanjo Criticizes Goodluck Jonathan's Administration

Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, downplays efforts towards safe return of abducted Chibok girls. Criticizes Goodluck Jonathan’s administration for non-development in key sectors of the economy.

In the wake of efforts made by the federal government to deliver the abducted Chibok girls in safe conditions, former president Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed doubts on the whole process.

Chief Obasanjo believes the girls are gone and he expressed this in Ile-Ife on Friday, February 5.

While speaking at the event put together by the staff club of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and titled “an evening with Obasanjo”, he said former president Goodluck Jonathan did not act fast on the issue of the girls when he was first informed about it.

Mr. Obasanjo said: “The  former president heard about the kidnap 8am in the morning of the abduction but failed to act until 72 hours later and by then it was too late.”

He added that anyone assuring Nigerians of a safe return of the girls is telling lies.

He said: “Anyone saying they(Chibok girls) will return is telling lies, maybe some of them will return to tell their story.”

Chief Obasanjo also added that Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was slow to respond to key issues of politics, especially the issues concerning Boko Haram and insurgency attacks.

He also criticized the past administration for inability to improve sectors such as power, railway and other key sectors of the economy.

He said:  “Power is still the same way I left it in 2007, railway is same way and other sectors, it was best that PDP stopped ruling us.

“It was a thing of joy to me that the earlier declaration of 50 years governance for PDP did not come to pass.”

Speaking on the reforms he made in the education sector, Obasanjo says he had no regrets.

He said: “It was a thing of joy to me that the earlier declaration of 50 years governance for PDP did not come to pass.

“I prefer to have all persons in schools than to have some few persons simply enjoying free food.”
